Why did you decide to come to Carleton?
I chose Carleton because it offered one of the best combinations of academics and athletics of any D3 school. When I visited, the professors were outgoing, the people were nice, and the camaraderie of the baseball team was unlike any other school.
What have been some of the differences between college and high school sports?
At Carleton every athlete is very dedicated to their sport, and willing to put in a lot of work to get better. In an optional offseason workout almost all of the team shows up, opposed to high school where it is pretty typical to only have a couple guys at each workout. Everyone is at practice or at a game because they really want to be there, and it creates a very competitive and fun atmosphere.
What are you most looking forward to for next season?
I can't want to just get out there and beat up on some teams that we lost to last year. Our program is on the rise, we have a lot of talent, and I am confident that we are going to win a lot of ballgames next year.
Do you have any team traditions?
When there are 2 balls 2 strikes and 2 outs in an inning and we are up to bat everyone on the bench "charges" their hat by rubbing the side of it furiously, and then as the pitcher is about to pitch someone yells "pull" and everyone takes their hat off and does a variety of things. There is the typical shake the hat in front of the body, the "grenade" where someone throws their hat like and everyone jumps as if it were a grenade, the "chuck" where everyone slams their hat on the ground, and much more. Something good happens from it everytime.
