Athletic Training

Health Insurance/Emergency Contact Form | Returning Student-Athlete Health History Form

Welcome to the Carleton College Sports Medicine (Athletic Training) website. Carleton College supports 21 intercollegiate athletic teams for men and women, including numerous varsity sports and many club teams.

Sports Medicine, more specifically Athletic Training, deals with the medical care of our student-athletes. This care includes the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries that may occur to our student-athletes.

The Carleton College Sports Medicine staff consists of: A Team Physician, 3 Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC's), a Physical Therapist, and approximately 12-18 Sports Medicine assistants. The staff of ATC's and Sports Medicine assistants (SMA's) provide on-site medical coverage to our varsity teams. This coverage includes before and after practice and game/meet coverage. An ATC is also available for 4 hours a week and some game coverage for club athletics.

There are four training rooms on campus. They include: The Recreation Center, Laird Stadium, West Gymnasium, and Cowling Recreation Center. Our main office is located in the Recreation Center training room.

Sports Medicine Staff

Ann Wieber-Young P.T., ATC
Phone: (507)222-7371
Email: ayoung@carleton.edu
Ann is starting her 11th season as a certified athletic trainer here at Carleton. Ann has been a certified trainer for 17 years and a physical therapist for 15 years. She is employed by the Center for Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (CSMR), which contracts her services to Carleton. Along with athletic training, Ann provides physical therapy services. She specializes in neck and back care and foot and ankle care, including orthotics. She enjoys working with the student-athletes, aiding in their pursuit of athletic excellence. You will find her covering volleyball, women's basketball and softball this year. When she's not covering a contest, you'll probably hear her cheering on the Knights along with her daughter Regina and son Dezra. It truly is a family affair as the fourth member of her family, husband Gerald, just happens to be associate professor, associate athletic director and assistant football and softball here at Carleton. Go Knights!

Charlie Jeffers, ATC, CSCS
Phone: (507)222-2828
Email: cjeffers@carleton.edu
Charlie is starting his fourth season at Carleton and is employed through the Center for Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (CSMR)/Northfield Hospital. Charlie has been an athletic trainer for 22 years. Prior to Carleton he worked for 17 years in physical therapy and sports medicine clinics, with the majority of that time coming at Two Rivers Center at a Northwest Suburban Clinic. Charlie attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. He and his wife, Jackie Nesbitt, live in Bloomington, Minn., with their large Airedale, Max. When not working with Carleton's soccer, cross country, or track and field student-athletes, he's probably "watching tennis, wishing I was playing with them."
