Georgetown, Texas –Southwestern University junior right-hander Matt Mendel recorded a no-hitter as the host Pirates beat Carleton College, 7-0.
Mendel fanned 10 and walked five in going the full nine innings and facing five over the minimum for Southwestern (9-14).
Matt Topeff (Jr./Andover, Minn./Blaine) suffered the loss for Carleton (1-7), lasting 5.2 innings and allowing 10 hits and six runs, four earned, with four strikeouts and five walks.
Carleton was playing its second game of the day, as they defeated Doane College (Neb.), 11-7, earlier in the day at Trinity University’s E.M. Stevens Field.
The game was the Knights’ final contest on their spring break trip to Texas. The Knights return to action on Tuesday, March 28, hosting Northwestern College (Minn.) at 2 p.m. in a doubleheader at Knights Field.
