Thaddaeus Gregory Pitches Knights to Sweep of Finlandia

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Thaddaeus Gregory (So./Seattle, Wash./University Prep) hurled a five-hit shutout as the Carleton College men’s baseball team completed a sweep of Finlandia University, 10-4 and 11-0. Playing before the home fans for the first time this season, the Knights extended their win streak to five games and have scored double figures in runs in each of those contests.

The Lions hung around early in game one before Ray Yong’s (Jr./Elmhurst, Ill./York) first collegiate home run snapped a 4-4 tie in the third inning. The Knights added another run later in the frame. Carleton tacked on four more in the home half of the fifth inning, with David Reynolds’ (So./Medina, Minn./Wayzata) three-run double providing the biggest blow.

Josh Zoellmer (Jr./Richfield, Minn./Richfield) finished 2-for-3 with four RBI, and Cody Bohlman (Fy./Irvine, Calif./University High School) was 3-for-3.

Henry Rownd (Sr./Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) notched the victory with 3.0 scoreless frames of relief work. He yielded a lone single and struck out three.

Game two was all about the mound work of Gregory, who was making just his third collegiate start. He scattered five hits—all singles—without a walk. After the Lions loaded the bases in the fourth, Gregory finished the frame with one of his four strikeouts.

After going hitless in game one, and seeing his streak of nine consecutive multi-hit games snapped, Hayden Tsutsui (Fy./Northridge, Calif./Chatsworth) collected two more hits in the nightcap. Yong and David Stillerman (Jr./Evanston, Ill./Evanston) added two-hit games as well.

Carleton is slated to open conference action on Monday, April 8. First pitch against Gustavus Adolphus College is slated for 2:30 p.m. Those not able to make it out to Mel Taube Field can watch the live video webcast on Knights Online.
