Jordan Soteros (#37) earned his first All-MIAC honor
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Jordan Soteros (Jr./Scottsdale, Ariz./Pinnacle) represented the Carleton College football team on the All-MIAC First-Team. Selected by the conference coaches for his all-around game, he starred as both a cornerback and a returner. He is the first Carleton cornerback named to the all-conference first team since 2003 and only the fifth over the last 29 campaigns. (SEE CHART AT BOTTOM OF RELEASE)
Soteros was second in the MIAC in passes defended and had four interceptions on the year, including two that he returned for touchdowns which was tops in the conference. He also forced a pair of fumbles, one off the conference lead. He ranked fifth among conference defensive backs (17th among all players) with 7.0 tackles per game. His stats included 49 solo stops, third best in the conference overall and tops among defensive backs.
When he wasn’t playing defense, Soteros was impacting the game on special teams. He finished fourth overall in the MIAC with a 9.1-yard punt return average. He was also second in the conference with a kickoff return average at 23.1 yards. That figured included a 92-yarder for a touchdown versus Concordia, the longest scoring play in the MIAC this season. When teams kicked away from him, Soteros still made an impact as he provided key blocks for teammate DeAngelo Williams to also rank among the conference’s top 10 in kick returns.
Despite not playing offense, Soteros’ three touchdowns meant he finished third on the Knights in scoring.
He was voted the MIAC Special Teams Player of the Week (Oct. 10) following his performance against Concordia and Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 17) for his play at St. Olaf. He is one of only five athletes to win a pair of MIAC weekly football awards this season and one of only two to pull off the defensive-special teams combo.
As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the sixth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for football. Offensive lineman Tanner Martin (Tempe, Ariz./Brophy) was selected by his coaches and teammates as an individual who demonstrates ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
