NORTHFIELD, Minn.--Carleton College athletic department officials were notified late Friday evening of the passing of Jinny (White) Thurnblad '48, the wife of long-time Carleton men's basketball coach Jack Thurnblad '49.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 30, from 4-8 p.m. at the Benson and Langehough Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the funeral. Memorials are preferred to the Jinny Thurnblad Memorial Fund which will be used for the dance program at Carleton College.

On February 2, 2008, Carleton named the West Gymnasium playing floor and new scoreboard in honor of Jack and Jinny Thurnblad. Throughout the years, Jack and Jinny’s home in Northfield was a welcome gathering place, filled with food and fellowship. While raising a family and teaching dance to children for more than 20 years, Jinny actively supported Jack’s Carleton student-athletes and spent numerous hours volunteering for Carleton. Her energy and enthusiasm on every Class of 1948 reunion committee, including in her role as co-chair of her 50th reunion, has ensured memorable weekends for her classmates. She was a recipient of an Alumni Association Award for Exceptional Service.
