Saint Paul, Minn.— After a blistering start to the 2013 season, Carleton sophomore Hart Hornor (So./Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) was named as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Hornor received the weekly honor after leading the Knights to an impressive win at the Central College Dutch Invitational. Hornor finished second with an 8K time of 26:30.3 to lead the Knights to victory over a pair of regionally-ranked opponents.
Hornor completed the 8K course in just 26:30.3, which was an 11-second margin over the third-place finisher. In the field of 97 runners, Hornor finished ahead of all but one as he led the Knights to the team win. Carleton's team score of 36 points bested host Central, which is ranked No. 7 in Division III and No. 1 in the region, and Loras, which is ranked No. 4 in the region. Horner's time and finish demonstrate his marked improvement from his freshman season, where he finished 109th at the MIAC Championship Meet, and was not included on the Knights roster for the regional meet.
Carleton and Hornor will look to continue their hot start to the 2013 season this weekend when they return to action at the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College. The race will be held at Oakland Acres Golf Course Saturday at 10 a.m.
