CLEVELAND, Ohio – Carleton College senior Charlie Gamble (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) concluded his final season by placing 233rd out of 276 racers at the 2009 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. He finished the eight-kilometer course with a time of 27:54.8.
This was Gamble’s second appearance at the national meet, having previously raced in 2007 when the Carleton men garnered an at-large bid. He held off St. Olaf’s Adrian Swanson at the finish line, edging the Ole junior by 0.1 second.
Gamble, who placed 11th at regionals last week, earned a spot in the national meet by being once of the central region’s top seven individual finishers that was not a member of a squad qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
The course at Highland Park Golf Course dried out some over the last few days but was still pretty soft.
