Knights Finish 20th at Saint John's Fall Invitiational

SARTELL, Minn. - The Carleton Men’s Golf Team finished 20th out of 21 teams at the Saint John’s Fall Invitational.  Leading the Knights was senior Brain Gilmore (Sr. /Edina, Minn. /Edina), who finished 22-over par for the tournament, with a 36-hole total of 166.

The two-day event was hosted by Saint John’s with the first day of competition taking place at Greystone Golf Club in Sauk Center, Minn. The second round was played in Sartell, Minn. at Blackberry Ridge Golf Club.  The Knights completed the two days with a total score of 699.

Each member of the team contributed to the team’s overall score on at least one of the two days. Turner Wadington (Sr./St. Charles, Ill./Elgin Academy), Brian Chesley (Jr./Mankato, Minn./Mankato West), and Gilmore were scorers both days.

Wadington had a rough first day carding a 22-over par 94, but he turned it around the second day to shoot an 82. Chesley also helped the team by carding a two-day total of 177. On the first day of competition, Aaron Buckley (So. /San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) fired a 12-over par round of 84. However, he struggled over the final 18 holes , and David Steefel-Moore (Sr. Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) carded a 24-over par 96 for the Knights’ fourth score on Sunday.

The University of Manitoba took home the team title with a 35-over two day total of 611.

The Knights will tee it up again at the Macalester Invitational next weekend. The first round will be played at the Chaska (Minn.) Town Course, which hosted the U.S. Amateur Tournament in 2006. Sunday's round is slated to take place at Dahlgreen Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
