MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Carleton College men’s golf team kicked off its Spring Break trip with a modified Ryder Cup match against Hobart College (N.Y.). The teams played the Pete Dye course located at the Barefoot Resort. The Statesmen won 8.5-2.5 and already had the decision in hand when a rainstorm cut short competition on the back nine.

The first two matches included two players from each school (Carleton 1 & 2 vs. Hobart 1 & 2, etc.) A total of five points were at stake in each foursome, with a point going to the side that won each six-hole competition or a half-point if the teams tied.

For the first six holes, it was match play between one Carleton golfer and one Hobart golfer. Over the next six holes, it was match play against the second opponent in that group, and the final six holes were scheduled to be best-ball match play with a point going to the side that won or a half-point if the team’s tied.

The format was adjusted slightly for the third and fourth matches due to differences in roster size.

Carleton’s full points came from juniors Brian Chesley (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West), Ted Harrington (Frisco, Texas/Justin Wakeland), who both won a six-hole match play portion. Senior Turner Wadington (St. Charles, Ill./Elgin Academy) halved his match play.
