NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The final two rounds of the Saint John's Spring Invitational men's golf tournament were canceled due to rain, shortening the tournament to 18 holes. Aaron Buckley (Sr./San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) fired an opening round four-over par 76 in Saturday’s first round and finished in a tie for 27th.
Aided by a shot hit left-handed from 120 yards, Buckley was at even par over the front nine of the opening round at St. Cloud Country Club. His 76 is one stroke off his career-best performance in last year’s season opener.
Playing with only four golfers due to campus commitments for the other three team members, the Knights finished with a team score of 338.
Playing in less than ideal conditions, Jorde Ranum (Jr./Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) carded his third-best score of the year. Brian Herlihy (So./Danbury, Conn./Immaculate High School) and Matt Meier (Fy./ North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) made their spring debuts.
The season is slated to conclude with the “Rusty Putter” dual match against cross-town foe St. Olaf College. The date of this competition has yet to be announced.
