COON RAPIDS, Minn - The Carleton College men’s golf team entered the second round of play at the MIAC Championships with the hopes of improving their position heading into Monday’s final round. Instead the Knights carded a team total of 329 on the challenging par-72 layout at Bunker Hills Golf Club and slipped one slot in the team standings and now sit in ninth position with 18 holes left to play.

First-round leader Saint John’s University maintained the lead after day two but saw its lead shrink to four strokes over second-place Bethel University.

Sophomore Ned Rohrbach (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) was tied for fifth coming into the day but fell back into a tie for 20th after posting a 10-over par 82, which gives him a two-day total of 155. The challenging layout shuffled the individual leaderboard quite a bit as only five of the top 20 players improved upon their first-round tally.

Aaron Buckley (Sr./San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) carded the Knights’ best score on Sunday with a nine-over par 81, giving him a two-day total of 161. Jeff Berg (Sr./Wood Dale, Ill./Wheaton Academy) is in with 163 after his second round 82, while Brian Herlihy (So./Danbury, Conn./Immaculate High School) and Jorde Ranum (Jr./Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) posted an 84 and 86, respectively, to complete the card for Carleton.

The final round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Carleton will once again play in the same group as Macalester and Saint Mary’s.
