DECORAH, Iowa -- Brandon Hilliard (So./Anoka, Minn./Totino Grace) came up with several crucial saves as the Carleton College men’s soccer team played regionally-ranked Luther College to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday night.
Both teams attempted six shots during the opening half with the Norse (4-1-1) having the more dangerous scoring chances. After intermission, the Knights (3-2-1) controlled the run of play, maintaining possession for long stretches and out-shooting their hosts.
During the two overtime periods, Carleton more than held its own, getting numerous crosses into the box, but neither team could break the deadlock.
Danny Leal (Jr./Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) was once a focal point for the Carleton attack as he finished the night with a match-high eight shots.
Hillard was credited with four saves and lowered his goals against average to 0.73 in notching the team’s fourth consecutive defensive shutout.
Carleton’s roadtrip continues with a visit to Augsburg College on Saturday, Sept. 19 in what will be the MIAC opener for the Knights.
