The Gusties got a counter-attack goals from Bret Vander Streek late in the first half and carried the one-goal advantage into intermission. Fraser Horton played a through ball past the Carleton defense and the speedy Vander Streek slotted the ball past Pete Semmer (Jr./Del Mar, Calif./Bishop's School).
In the 51st minute Vander Streek notched his second goal of the afternoon in similar fashion. This time Kyle Sadler delivered the through ball over the defense. Vander Streek eluded a pair of Knight defenders before shooting around the Carleton keeper.
Carleton had one of its best chances to scoring moments later when Tim Wills (So./Portland, Ore./Central Catholic) fired a shot from in front and Wes Elfman’s (Jr./Madison, Wis./Edgewood) rebound shot bounced off the left post.
The Knights refused to give up and finally cut into the deficit in the 85th minute. Ryan Cammarota (So./Neenah, Wis.) played a ball over the Gustie back line to Silbert who blasted a shot into the lower right corner.
The Knights remained on the attack, but could not find the equalizer before time expired.
