NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s soccer team celebrated homecoming with a decisive 3-0 victory over visiting Saint John’s University. Sophomore Miles Silbert (St. Louis Park, Minn.) notched a goal and an assist as the Knights posted their fifth straight victory.
The Knights maintain their hold on the top spot in the standings and are now 23-4-2 at home since the start of the 2007 campaign and 25-2-3 overall in MIAC play since Oct. 14, 2006.
An early goal from Ross Hamilton (Sr./Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) would end up being all the Knights would need on this day. For good measure they tacked on second-half scores from Silbert and Taylor Ward (Springboro, Ohio).
“I thought the guys responded well in tough conditions,” said Carleton head coach Bob Carlson. “They moved the ball around really nicely, and we had a lot of chances.”
Carleton out-shot the Johnnies 26-7 on the afternoon.
Keeper Pete Semmer (Jr./Del Mar, Calif./Bishop’s School) recorded his third shutout of the season.
This was the Knights final conference home game of the 2009 slate. They will host an alumni game on Sunday before preparing for road contest at Bethel University on Wed., October 7.
