Men's Soccer vs. Macalester College

Saturday, October 17th, 2015 – 1:00 p.m. at Northfield, Minn. - Bell Field

Knights Edged by Macalester, 1-0

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- In a tightly-contested matchup between the second- and third-place teams in the conference, Macalester College edged the Carleton College men’s soccer team, 1-0.  The result snapped the Knights’ four-match win streak.

Macalester (9-0-5, 5-0-2 MIAC) received tremendous work from goalkeeper Zeke Vainer, who finished with eight saves to keep his team undefeated on the season and move the Scots into first place in the MIAC. Brandon Hilliard (So./Anoka, Minn./Totino Grace) registered five key saves for Carleton (7-5-2, 4-2-1 MIAC), who drops into fourth place in the conference standings.

The Knights were inches from scoring twice in the opening half, hitting the crossbar in the 33rd and again in the 36th minute.

The Scots broke the scoreless deadlock in the 75th minute. A very long service by Macalester defender Nick Sorenson was run onto by Danny Bauman, who one-touched a chip a shot over the Carleton keeper for the game’s lone tally.

Carleton will step away from conference action for a tough match at national No. 23 College of St. Scholastica on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 12:00 p.m. Then the Knights will close the regular season with three MIAC matches beginning with a visit to rival St. Olaf College next Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m.
