BALTIMORE, Md. – The Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team earned Scholar All-American honors from the College Swim Coaches Association of American (CSCAA). The Knights were ranked 19th in Division III after posting a combined 3.32 grade point average during the 2009 spring term. Carleton also tied for 27th among all men's swim programs in Division I, II, III and NAIA.
In order to be named on the Scholar All-American list, squads must have had a combined team grade point average of 3.00 or better on a 4.00 scale.
The Macalester College men owned women led the way with a 3.56 GPA. Four men’s programs from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) received the distinction for the spring term, including Macalester College (3.65), Hamline University (3.41) and Gustavus Adolphus College (3.22)
The CSCAA produces the Scholar All-American list twice each year. The spring list also recognized individual Scholar All-American honorees, who were selected on the basis of their performance in the pool and the classroom.
Carleton's Ted Marschall (Sr./Burnsville, Minn.) was one of four men’s swimmers from the MIAC to receive distinction as an individual 2009 CSCAA Scholar All-American.
Elliott Bartis (Sr./McLean, Va.) was one of five others from the MIAC to earn individual Honorable Mention Scholar All-American status.
