Result: No team scores

Freshman Duo Dazzles at Cows, Colleges, and Contentment Classic

NORTHFIELD, Minn.- The Carleton men’s swimming and diving team was strongly represented in Saturday’s Cows, Colleges, and Contentment Classic hosted by St. Olaf College. The early season meet was a non-scored event, enabling the team to experiment with swimmers outside of their typical events.

Nonetheless, the team found plenty to cheer about thanks to the performances of freshmen Erik Klontz (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Marmoru Kanazawa (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary’s International School), who combined to win three events. Klontz won the 50-yard freestyle in a fleet 22.16, while Kanazawa took top honors in both the 100-yard backstroke (56.31) and the 100-yard butterfly (54.31).

Additionally, Eric Brenner (Jr./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) emerged as the victor in the 3 meter diving competition.

Head coach Andy Clark was strongly encouraged by the team’s performance at the Classic, saying “After an exciting home dual meet last night, a meet like today, one without scoring and one where team members are swimming in many off events, it could be easy for the teams to lose focus and supportive energy for each other. It was great to see that was not the case for either squad and people not only swam well but were cheering each other on throughout a long day of swimming.

"Back to back meets are both emotionally and physically tough, especially early in the season when fitness levels are still being developed, but both teams did an excellent job of maintaining momentum and it paid off with some strong early season performances."

The Knights will next see action at the Ted Mullin Hour of Power Relay for Cancer Research on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
