ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team cruised to a 208-41 victory over Hamline University in the final competition of the fall term. The Knights nearly swept the Pipers, earning first place in 14 of 16 events. Sophomore Griffin Williams (Kalamazoo, Mich.) was tabbed the Carleton’s swimmer-of-the-meet for his performances in the 100-yard backstroke, 50- and 100-yard freestyle, and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Williams, who will be off campus next term, was shaved and rested for the meet. He placed second in the 100 backstroke, fifth in both individual freestyle races, and helped the Knights take the top three spots in the 400 freestyle relay.
Carleton saw the meet finish with a season-best time (3:19.51) posted by the top 400 freestyle relay grouping of Mamoru Kanazawa (Fy./Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School), Erik Klontz (Fy./Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), Djem Kissiov (So./Madison, Wis./West), and Andrew Mering (Jr./Baraboo, Wis.).
That same quartet grabbed top honors in the 200-yard medley relay to begin the evening’s competition. Kanazawa, Kissiov, and Mering combined for five more individual event victories.
Jaymes Awbrey (Fy./Farmington, Minn.) added top honors in the 1000-yard freestyle, while Kevin Hallman (So./Oak Park, Ill/Oak Park River Forest) and Brian Kilgour (Jr./Wichita, Kan./Wichita East) were duo event champions on this night. Hall posted his double victory in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley, while Kilgour touched the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard backstroke
