FLORIDA KEYS – The Carleton College swimming and diving teams took part in a unscored multi-team meet during the Knights’ winter break competition trip. Carleton grabbed first place in both 50-yard freestyle events as well as a double victory in the 200-yard individual medley.
The Carleton and Kalamazoo College (Mich.) men raced one another while the Carleton and Kalamazoo women also competed against Mount St. Mary’s (Md.)
A total of eight events were contested: the 200 medley relay, diving, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 200 IM, and 200 freestyle relay.
Milana Socha (Sr./Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and George McAneny (So./Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz) were first to the wall in the 50 freestyle, while Maria Wetzel (Fy./Salem, Ore./West Salem) and Alex Mathson (Fy./Verona, Wis./Verona) finished first in the 200 IM.
“Despite the heavy training we have had on the trip, the Carleton teams swam and dove with good energy,” said head coach Andy Clark, “and their performances on a whole were very positive.”
The Knights will step away from competition through the holidays before facing MIAC foe Gustavus Adolophus College on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, in St. Peter, Minn.
