HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Paired together for the first time since the ITA regional in September, Andrew Hwang (Jr./Brookfield, Wis./University School) and Erik Johnson (So./Grand Forks, N.D./Red River) teamed up for an 8-5 victory at first doubles. The momentum from that triumph was short-lived, however, as the Knights absorbed a 6-3 setback to a regionally-ranked Colby College squad.
Carleton led the Mules, 2-1, after doubles as Richard Yeker (So./Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Adlai E Stevenson) and Ezra Frankel (Fy./Lincoln, Mass./Belmont Hill School) also prevailed by an 8-4 margin at the third slot.
Colby exerted control after play moved to singles, winning five of the six matches en route to the Mules’ eighth consecutive team victory.
Mauricio Gonzalez (Jr./La Paz, Bolivia/American Cooperative School) had the lone solo victory for the Knights, topping Jack Bryant 6-3, 6-2 at fourth singles.
The Knights conclude their spring break trip with two matches on Thursday, March 26. Carleton faces Concordia University Wisconsin at 8:30 a.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. meeting with national No. 23 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
