ST. PAUL, Minn. – Marcus Huderle (So./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), who has won the steeplechase twice this spring, raced a shorter distance with impressive results at the Macalester Twilight. He placed second overall in the 800-meter run, finishing at 1:55.84. The small contingent of Knights that took part in the meet helped Carleton College finish ninth among 14 programs represented.
The University of Minnesota, a NCAA Division I program, won the meet followed by University of St. Thomas and University of Minnesota-Duluth, a D-II program.
Thor Laack-Veeder (Fy./Madison, Wis./LaFollette) joined Huderle in setting personal-best times at the 800-meter distance. Laack-Veeder placed seventh in the event at 1:57.78, while Huderle now ranks in the MIAC’s top-10 in each event he has attempted this season (800, 1500, 5000, and steeplechase).
Kian Flynn (Sr./Otis, Ore./Taft) and Michael Tolan (So./Saint Louis, Mo./John Burroughs) both notched personal-bests in the 1500-meter run. Flynn placed 10th overall in the 41-racer field with a personal-best time of 4:05.60.
Running into a headwind, Adrian Carpenter (So./Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo Atherton) still finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.80, a mark bettered only by a pair of hurdlers from D-I University of Minnesota. Carpenter beat three of the top six hurdlers in the MIAC and later placed ninth in the 400 hurdles.
Bobby Davis (Jr./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best finishing time of 15:25.19. Matt Harrison (Jr./Minnetrista, Minn./Mound Westonka) was Carleton’s lone competitor in the 3000-meter steeplechase, placing ninth overall at 10:26.69 as he attempted the event for the first time.
Most of the Knights will take part in the Drake Alternative Meet in St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday, April 28. Carleton will send its distance medley relay to run on Saturday morning at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
