NEW ORLEANS – For the fourth time in as many years, the Carleton College men’s track and field team posted one of the top-20 cumulative grade-point averages in the nation. The Knights tied for 19th at 3.35 and joined 73 other programs in being recognized as an All-Academic team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Additionally, Marcus Huderle ’14 (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) was selected as an USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree. He was one of 16 males from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) to secure the award.
To be eligible for the USTFCCCA All-Academic award, squads needed to post at least a 3.10-cumulative GPA. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference led all of the nation’s leagues with eight of its institutions reaching men’s All-Academic status: Carleton, Concordia, Gustavus, Macalester, Saint John’s, Saint Mary’s, St. Olaf and St. Thomas.

To earn the individual award, student-athletes must compile a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 and meet either of the following athletic standards: compete in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finish the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA performance list.
Huderle entered the NCAA Outdoor Championships seeded No. 18 overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He was one of two underclassmen to qualify for the event final, where he placed 12th. Earlier in the season he won individuals honors in the steeplechase at the MIAC Championships with a time of 9:11.16, the event’s fastest time at the conference meet over the last 15 years
