Men's Track and Field at Carleton Relays

Hooley wins 1,500, Zorn second in 800 at Carleton Relays

Northfield, Minn. -- Matt Hooley won the 1,500 meters and Graham Zorn placed second in the 800 meters as the Knights hosted the Carleton Relays at Laird Stadium.

Hooley clocked a time of 3:57.06, edging UM-Duluth's Adam Gellerstedt by .66 seconds. Teammate Bryan Donald was third in 3:58.62. Hooley and Donald were two of only six competitors to break four minutes in the 48-man field.

Zorn was edged in the 800 by Hamline's Mike Baker by less than a half second, as Zorn finished in 1:56.03.

Other top finishers for the Knights included Chris Lundberg taking second in the 5,000 meters in 15:18.31, the top Division III and MIAC finisher in the field. Dan Bucy was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:27.36. He was third among Division III runners and the first MIAC runner to cross the finish line.

Carleton's 4x1,600-meter relay team placed second in 18:23.75.

In the field, Carleton's throwers posted another strong performance. Adam Witt and Eric Smith both qualified for the finals in the shot put, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Witt recorded a toss of 45'4.5" while Smith tallied a throw of 44'9.5". Andy French was fifth in the hammer throw in 151'3".

Carleton runners will compete in two different meets next weekend. Some of the team's top runners will head south to participate in the Drake Relays on April 25-26 in Des Moines, Iowa, while the remainder of the team is scheduled to compete in the St. John's Invitational on Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m.
