Northfield, Minn. - St. Olaf's Evan Sundquist rode a big first-day lead to the MIAC Decathlon title, as he outdistanced St. John's Matt Mogenson by 90 points to win the title.
Sundquist held a 221-point lead over Mogenson after the first five events on Thursday, but saw that lead dwindle to a mere 10 points heading into the final event, the 1,500 meters. Sundquist, however, raced to a time of 4:51.32, scoring 611 points to Mogenson's 531 to win the title.
Ryan Davis of Bethel tallied 5,884 points to finish third. Sundquist, Mogenson and Davis all earn All-MIAC honors for their top three finishes. The top eight finishers earned points for their respective teams, which will be applied at next weekend's MIAC Outdoor Championships.
Carleton's Jason Weaver finished eighth with 5,027 points.
