NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Nick Cesarek (Sr./Eagan, Minn./Eastview) won the 55 meter dash at the St. Olaf Invitational with a time of 6.67. He was lone event winner for the Carleton men’s track and field team. He added a second-place showing in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.22, posting personal-best times in both events.
Carleton was one of five teams participating in the Friday night meet. The others were Augsburg, UW-River Falls, St. Olaf and NCAA Division II program, St. Cloud State.
Although no team scores were reported, there were several other notable finishes for the Knights.
Dylan Bothun (So./Rosemount, Minn.) and Kyle Burkhardt (Jr./Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 55 meter hurdles. Burkhardt, who greatly improved his personal best in the event, also placed fourth in the 400 meter dash, one spot ahead of teammate Steven Holley (So./St. Paul, Minn.) Bothun meanwhile established new personal standards in his three events (hurdles, high jump and long jump).
It was far from a typical meet for Tom Ballinger (Sr./Wenatchee, Wash.) He presented his senior comps talk immediately before driving himself over to the Tostrud Center and still managed to place second in the 600 meter dash.
Charlie Gamble (Sr./San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) and Tom Brenner (Sr./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) were second and fourth respectively in the 1000 meter run. Gamble's time of 2:35.00 was a career best.
Jameson Siegert’s (So./Madison, Minn./Lac Qui Parle Valley) top finish in his three events was second in the high jump, clearing 1.84 meters (6’ 0.5”), which was a personal record.
The Knights’ next competition is Friday, Feb. 13 at the Iowa State Classic followed a day later by the annual Meet of the Hearts on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Rec Center.
