ST. PAUL, Minn. – Evan Franco (Jr./Austin, Texas/James Bowie) won the pole vault at the Pre-MIAC Meet with a personal-best height of 4.30 meters (14’ 1.25”). That was Carleton’s lone event victory, but a total of 20 personal records were set by the Knights in their final tuneup for the MIAC Indoor Championships.
David Kornfeld (So./Guerneville, Calif./El Molino) was among those establishing new personal standards, as he cleared 12 feet, 1.5 inches in the pole vault.
Steven Holley (So./St. Paul, Minn./Harding) set new personal best in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. He was one of three Knights to run at personal-record speed in the 400 meter event.
Nick Cesarek (Sr./Eagan, Minn./Eastview) finished fourth in both the 55 meter dash and 200 meter dash, with the longer race representing a new PR.
The 55 meter hurdles saw four Carleton racers qualify for the finals, including a season-best time of 8.12 from senior Tom Ballinger (Wenatchee, Wash.) and personal records by Ty Martin (So./Minot, N.D.) and Kyle Burkhardt (Jr./Eden Prairie, Minn.)
Jack Delehanty (Sr./Madison, Wis./Monona Grove) and Ballinger finished second and third respectively in the 600 yard run.
Other personal bests turned in came from Eric Hofmann (Sr./ Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) in the 3000 meter run, Aaron Maurer (So./Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) in the weight throw, and Kian Flynn (Fy./Otis, Ore./Taft), Pete Samuels (Sr./Concord, N.H.) and Michael Knudson (So./Decorah, Iowa) in the mile run.
The indoor track and field meet will be hosted by Concordia College, Moorhead, beginning on Thursday, March 5 with the heptathlon.
