NORTHFIELD, Minn. – C.J. Dale (Jr./Fox Island, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) and Dylan Cheever (Jr./Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention by finishing fourth and sixth respectively at the MIAC Decathlon. Dale’s placement was the best by a Knight since Steve Burch ’90 finished third in 1990.
Dale totaled 5,747 points to lead a quartet of Knights participating in the 18-person field. On day one he won the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 1.5 inches and was second to the line in the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes, posting season-best times in both races. On Friday, he added season bests in the 110-meter hurdles, pole vault, and the 1,500-meter run, where he placed second overall.
Cheever accumulated 5,593 points. On Thursday he posted season-best marks in the 100-meter dash, long jump, high jump, and 400-meter dash. He cleared 1.90 meters in the high jump, seventh-best in the MIAC this season. On day two, Cheever notched season bests in four of the five events, including a first-place showing in the 1,500-meter run.
Colby Seyferth (Fy./Banks, Ore./Banks) also scored points in the team competition with his seventh-place overall result. He won the running races on day one and posted season-best marks in the shot put and high jump. During Friday’s portion of the competition, Seyferth notched season bests in the 110 hurdles, discus, and 1,500-meter run as he amassed 5,571 points.
Evan McNeil (Fy./Burnsville, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) was the final member of the Carleton group, finishing with 5,366 points. After finishing in the middle of the pack in all five events on Thursday, he posted his best event placement with a second-place result in the pole vault. McNeil recorded personal bests in eight of the 10 events.
Maxwell Dunne of University of St. Thomas won the competition with 6,201 points. Teammates Gavin Yseth and Patrick Ecklund rounded out the top three.
The decathlon counts as part of the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held May 11-12 at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
