Huderle Finishes 12th at Nationals

CLAREMONT, Calif.—Marcus Huderle (So./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) finished off his 2012 season with a 12th-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 9:22.21. He was one of two underclassmen who qualified in the 14-runner field for the event final.

After entering the national meet seeded No. 18 in the event, Huderle advanced to the finals after finishing fifth in his heat during Thursday’s preliminaries with a time of 9:15.77. This was the ninth-fastest time of all racers in the prelims.

Top-seeded Nick Kramer of Calvin College won today's final with a time of 8:51.01. The top eight finishers earned All-American status.

This race caps a phenomenal sophomore season for Huderle. He won individuals honors in the steeplechase at the MIAC Championships with a time of 9:11.16, the event’s fastest time at the conference meet over the last 15 years. A week later, he crossed the line at 9:06.87 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse NCAA Qualifier. Only five MIAC athletes in the past 15 years have eclipsed the 9:10 mark in the steeplechase.
