ST. PAUL, Minn. – Colby Seyferth’s (So./Banks, Ore./Banks) third-place finish in his first-ever 400-meter hurdles was the top performance for the Carleton College men’s track and field team at the Hamline Invitational, the Knights' first full-squad outdoor meet of 2013.
The large meet included competitors from 17 schools, including Division I programs at North Dakota State and University of Minnesota.
Seyferth posted a time of 56.47, finishing behind a pair of runners from Univ. of Minnesota. That is the top time in the MIAC this season, making the 400 hurdles the fifth event—also decathlon, 400-meter dash, discus, and javelin—in which Seyferth has been already been ranked No. 1 in the MIAC this season.
Evan McNeil (So./Burnsville, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) tied his personal best with a height of 4.15 meters in the pole vault, good for 10th overall. He added a PR in the shot put and ran a leg on the Knights’ 4x100-meter relay, which finished third with a time of 44.08. On the relay he was joined by Ben Nicla (Fy./Suamico, Wis./Bay Port), Garo Anguiano-Sainz (So./Chico, Calif./Chico), and Jordan Washam (Jr./Cincinnati, Ohio/Groton).
Marcus Huderle (Jr./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) eclipsed his previous personal best as he recorded a time of 3:59.41 in the 1500-meter run. That earned him fourth place out of 101 finishers in the event.
Arnaud Kpachavi (So./San Gregorio, Calif./Woodside Priory School) bettered his seed time in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes, recording marks of 23.95 and 51.41, respectively.
Ben Hiskes (Fy./Storrs, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) won his heat of the 400-meter dash in 52.50 and followed it up with a 2:04 in the 800-meter run for another solid double.
Carleton will take part in the Tomcat Invitational on Friday, April 12. That meet is hosted by the University of St. Thomas.
