2014 MIAC ITF LogoCOLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — After Friday’s action at the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Carleton College men’s team stands in seventh place. Long-distance runners starred for the Knights with All-MIAC performances by sophomores Hart Hornor (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) and Jonah Barry (Madison, Wis./Madison West).

The 5000-meter run gave the Knights one of the better chances to add to the team point totals, an opportunity that Carleton’s distance runners embraced in style. Hornor took second with a time of 14:49.75, ahead of senior teammate Jacob Hoerger (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill), who placed fifth with a time of 15:18.66 to secure All-MIAC Honorable Mention. Both runners posted new personal bests.

Adan Nunez-Frausto (Sr./Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) was next to add to Carleton’s point total with his eighth-place finish in the weight throw with a total distance of 15.01 meters (49 feet, 3 inches). He established a new PR with a heave of exactly 15.00 meters on his first attempt then bettered that ever so slightly on his last attempt.

Back on the track, the Carleton distance success continued in the mile run. Barry placed second overall with a time of took second in a new personal-best time of 4:15.67.

Colby Seyferth (Jr./Banks, Ore./Banks) kept the momentum alive when distances shortened as he crossed the line fifth during the 400-meter dash, picking up all-conference honorable mention. His time of 50.44 was only 0.02 seconds shy of his career best established at the 2012 MIAC Championships.

Although they were running in different heats, twins Thor Laack-Veeder (Jr./Madison, Wis./LaFollette) and Noah Laack-Veeder (Jr./Madison, Wis./LaFollette) posted nearly identical times. Thor tallied a team point as he finished eighth at 1:58.93, with his brother posting a time only 0.08 seconds slower.

The Knights concluded Friday’s action with the distance medley relay. The quartet of Ben Hiskes (So./Storrs, Conn./Loomis Chaffee), Arafat Akinlabi (Jr./Chicago, Ill./Hubbard), Caleb Flack (So./Chicago, Ill./Francis W Parker), and Walter Edstrom (Fy./Plano, Texas/Plano West) notched a team point by finishing eighth with a season-best time of 10:51.56.
