LA CROSSE, Wis. — A small contingent of Carleton College athletes participated Thursday night in a last chance meet hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. None of them, however, were able to improve upon their season-best performances turned in at last week’s MIAC Championships.
Senior John Hanks (LeRoy, Minn./LeRoy-Ostrander) closed out his collegiate career by winning the javelin throw at his third consecutive meet. He fell short of his personal-best (184-1) recorded in his final throw at the conference meet. On Thursday, he was victorious with a distance of 182-7, a winning margin of more than six-and-a-half feet.
John Davis (So./Eden Prairie, Minn.) badly bruised his heel on the first water jump in the steeplechase but managed to finish the race.
The Knights entry in the 4x400 meter relay posted a time of 3:16.69, only .03 second off their performance at the MIAC meet.
Nick Cesarek (Sr./Eagan, Minn./Eastview) ran his best 400-meter split ever, posting a lead-off leg at 49.31. Michael Sanders (Jr./Cedar Falls, Iowa) and Jack Delehanty (Sr./Madison, Wis./Monona Grove) averaged 49.5, and Tom Ballinger (Sr./Wenatchee, Wash.) closed with his best-ever leg (47.6).
The field for the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships is expected to be announced on Sunday, May 17.
