C.J. Dale Breaks Heptathlon Record, Knights Sixth After Day 1 at MIAC Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – C.J. Dale (Sr./Fox Island, Wash. /Charles Wright Academy) smashed the school record in the heptathlon and Noah Laack-Veeder (So./Madison, Wis./Robert M Lafollette) grabbed All-MIAC distinction in the 800-meter run on the first full day of competition at the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Knights are tied for sixth among the 11 teams.

Dale finished with 4371 points in the heptathlon, bettering the team record by more than 200 points. The previous mark was established by Kane Bechstein at the 2007 MIAC Championships.

Dale was busy on Friday. In addition to finishing up the heptathlon, he also took part in the open competition for both the long jump and 60-meter hurdles. After He qualified for the finals of the long jump then transitioned to the 1000-meter run, the final event in the heptathlon.

Later he was on the track for the open 60 hurdles, then returning back to the long jump competition and placing fifth overall, earning All-MIAC honorable mention with a leap of 6.53 meters.

Colby Seyferth (So./Banks, Ore./Banks) picked up All-MIAC Honorable Mention thanks to his sixth-place result in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 50.95

During the 800-meter run, Laack-Veeder and Jack Percival (Fy./Newport Coast, Calif./Sage Hill School) reached the line at 1:56.81 and 1:56.84, respectively. Laack-Veeder was third and garnered All-MIAC status. Percival picked up All-MIAC Honorable Mention.

The evening concluded with an All-MIAC Honorable Mention performance in the distance medley relay. Joe Haase (Fy./Fitchburg, Wis./West), Evan McNeil (So./Burnsville, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels), Arnaud Kpachavi (So./San Gregorio, Calif./Woodside Priory School), and Jonah Barry (Fy./Madison, Wis./Madison West) combined on a time of 10:35.43, good for fourth place.

The final day of competition at the MIAC Championships begins with field events at 11:00 a.m. followed by racing on the track starting at 1:00 p.m.
