MIAC softball awards release (from miac-online.org)
NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Michael Johnson (Jr./Minneapolis, Minn./Blake) of the Carleton College softball team received All-MIAC honors as announced by the conference office. After taking over duties at shortstop this season, she led the Knights in almost every meaningful offensive statistic.
Johnson batted .309 during the year, more than 60 points better than the second-best average in the lineup. She also paced the team with six doubles, 14 RBI, 16 runs scored, a .385 on-base percentage, and a .495 slugging average. Johnson hit four home runs, fourth-most in a season for the Knights. That figure includes a record-breaking two grand slams in a game against Concordia on April 14. Johnson moved into second place all time at Carleton with six homers.
Senior pitcher Mari Jo Long (Wilmette, Ill.) was named All-MIAC Honorable Mention for her performance this spring. After missing the 2008 campaign while studying abroad, she returned to the team this season and led the team’s pitching staff in every category. She was the winning pitcher in each of Carleton’s victories this season and struck out 109 batters over 141.0 innings of work.
Long concludes her career among the all-time leaders in Carleton softball history. She ranks second in appearances (84), starts (62), complete games (47) and innings pitched (420.1). Her 17 wins rank fourth and her 4.92 ERA is sixth. She previously received All-MIAC honors as a sophomore.
For the second year in a row, senior catcher Andrea Duron (Claremont, Calif./Vivian Webb) was selected to represent Carleton College on the MIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. She was selected by her coaches and teammates as someone who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
