Knights sweep Saint Mary’s with pair of one-run wins

WINONA, Minn. — Keelin Davis (So./Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville) went the distance for the win in game one and then tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the save in game two as the Carleton College softball team completed a doubleheader sweep at Saint Mary’s University, 4-3 and 9-8.

Davis was especially tough early on as she limited the Cardinals to only two singles over the front five innings Overall, she struck out eight batters and gave up only two earned runs on six hits and two walks.

Offensively, Carleton scored single tallies in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Katrina Harper (Sr./Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Madi Emenheiser (Fy./Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) added a two-hit performance, and Davis delivered a clutch sacrifice fly to plate Harper in the seventh with what became the deciding run.

Saint Mary’s raced out to a 5-0 lead in game two, but the Knights countered with a five-run top of the third, capitalizing on a trio of Cardinal errors. Carleton add three more runs in the fourth and got a critical insurance run in the fifth when Caroline Duke (Fy./Evanston, Ill./Evanston) crushed a home run to dead center.

With the Cardinals threatening in the bottom of the frame, Davis was summoned from the pen and gave up just one hit over the final 2.2 scoreless stanzas to record her first collegiate save.

Davis contributed to the offensive output with three RBI in the nightcap. Micaela LaRose (Jr./Waconia, Minn./Holy Family) went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Duke had her second three-hit game in as many days.

Carleton will finally get to play its home opener when the Knights host Gustavus Adolphus College for a 3:30 p.m. twinbill on Wednesday, April 9.
