VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. — The 2014 season drew to a close for the Carleton College softball team as the Knights dropped both ends of a doubleheader against College of Saint Benedict, falling by scores of 6-1 and 4-0. Due to wet weather, the games were re-located indoors to the Vadnais Sports Center. Nicole Magats (So./La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) collected a team-best three hits for the Knights.
Carleton (12-25, 10-12 MIAC) scored first on the day when Micaela LaRose (Jr./Waconia, Minn./Holy Family) singled to centerfield, scoring Hailey Jones (Fy./Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville) with two down in the top of the third. The Blazers (28-9, 15-7 MIAC) got that run back and added another when Kim Lidstone hit a two-run line drive homer. Saint Benedict added another tally in the fourth without the aid of a base hit.
The score remained 3-1 until the Blazers scored a trio of unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
St. Ben’s jumped out to the lead in the first inning of game two, plating four runs all with two out. That proved to be all the scoring for either team in the game.
Keelin Davis (So./Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville), who took the loss in game one, came back to toss 6.2 scoreless innings in the second half of the twin bill.
Tonight marked the final game in the careers of the five seniors on the roster: Kaitlin Bagley (Sr./Duluth, Minn./Denfeld), Holly Buttrey (Sr./East Thetford, Vt./Thetford Academy), Jenny Forster (Sr./Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard), Katrina Harper (Sr./Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights), Jenny Ramey (Sr./Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy).
