ST. JOSPEH, Minn. – The Knights played a second road doubleheader in as many days and suffered the same result both times, a pair of losses. This time Carleton absorbed setbacks by scores of 6-2 and 8-0 to the College of Saint Benedict. Alex Schefter (So./Mt. Vernon, Iowa) was a perfect 3-for-3 in the opener.
In game one, Carleton repeatedly threatened to score, getting a baserunner into scoring position in six of the seven frames. The Knights broke through in the third and built a 2-0 lead. Dana Mackey (Fy./Hingham, Mass.) and Michael Johnson (Jr./Minneapolis, Minn./Blake) had consecutive singles to open the inning. Karen Robinson (Fy./Bainbridge Island, Wash.) plated the first run with a groundout, while the other came home via a Blazers’ throwing error.
The lead remained in Carleton’s favor until the bottom of the fourth when Saint Benedict scored five unearned runs.
Game two saw the Knights again get runners aboard in all but one inning, but they could not collect the necessary two-out hits.
Carleton’s final home games of the year are Wednesday, April 22 versus Augsburg College. It will be Senior Day, recognizing the contributions of the five seniors on the roster.
