NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Carleton softball team hosted Gustavus Adolphus in the Knights’ home opener, but the Gusties played the role of spoilers on this day, shutting out the hosts by scores of 8-0 and 9-0.
In the opener, the long ball was key for Gustavus as the visitors got a two-run homer from Rachael Click in the first and a three-run blast by Emily Klein in the second. A trio of unearned runs in the fourth concluded the scoring.
Carleton starting pitcher Mari Jo Long (Sr./Willmette, Ill./New Trier) was 2-for-2 at the plate, but the rest of the squad went hitless.
In the nightcap, the Gusties scored in all five innings, beginning with four unearned tallies in the opening frame. Carleton catcher Andrea Duron (Sr./Claremont, Calif./Vivian Webb) picked up the Knights’ lone hit to begin the fifth.
The Knights hit the road and take on St. Catherine on Saturday, April 4 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Paul.
