NORTHFIELD, Minn. – It was Senior Day and Hannah Maras (Sr./Madelia, Minn.) grabbed the spotlight as she delivered a two-run, two-out single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Knights a 3-2 victory in the opener. Michael Johnson (Jr./Minneapolis/Blake) smacked her fourth home run over the last nine days in game two, but Augsburg earned a split with a 12-2 triumph.
Carleton’s five seniors—Andrea Duron (Claremont, Calif./Vivian Webb), Lisa Friedman (Pasadena, Calif./Flintridge Preparatory), Mari Jo Long (Willmette, Ill./New Trier), Natalie Santana (Colorado Springs, Colo./Thomas B. Doherty), and Maras—were recognized during a pre-game ceremony.
Trailing 2-1, the Knights loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh. A forceout at the plate set the stage for Maras, who looked the part of a seasoned veteran, stroking a single to right center to chase home the tying and winning runs.
Long fanned four batters, did not issue a walk and gave up only two unearned runs on five hits in earning the victory in the opener.
Augsburg scored seven times in first inning of game two, establishing control en route to the 12-2 win.
The Knights have two more doubleheaders remaining on the schedule. They will travel to the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Thursday, April 23, followed by the season finale on Saturday, April 25 at St. Olaf College.
