ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Carleton softball team dropped a pair of games at the Sun West Tournament on Monday. The Knights lost 16-2 to Whitworth University in the morning then could not get the bats restarted in an afternoon 7-0 defeat at the hands of Williams College.
In the early game, the Knights had runners in scoring position in every inning but could manage only two runs on five hits. Meanwhile, the Pirates needed only four innings at the plate to accumulate 16 runs and enforce the eight-run rule.
Carleton found it equally difficult to get going in the second game of the slate. Williams limited the Knights to one hit, a Hannah Maras (Sr./Madelia, Minn.) base knock in the third inning. Carleton had plenty of chances to get on the scoreboard but stranded nine baserunners, including six of them in scoring position.
The Knights are off Tuesday before facing Middlebury College (Vt.) and host Chapman University on Wednesday, March 25.
