Softball at Sun West Tournament against Middlebury (VT)

Anaheim, Calif. - Peralta Park

Result: L 2-7

Trip to the Golden State Tarnished by Two More Defeats

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Carleton softball team saw its losing streak reach six games after a pair of loses at the Sun West Tournament as the Knights fell 7-2 to Middlebury College (Vt.) and 13-0 to host school Chapman University. Senior catcher Andrea Duron (Claremont, Calif./Vivian Webb) went 4-for-6 on the day.

In the early game, Carleton was unable to come up with many clutch hits, stranding 10 baserunners, including a bases-loaded, none-out situation in the second inning.

Carleton’s roster sports a pair of local products, and they both contributed on offense. Lisa Friedman (Sr./Pasadena, Calif./Flintridge Preparatory) had two hits, including a double to start the Knights’ two-run rally in the fifth. Duron was 3-of-4 and singled home one of Carleton’s tallies during the frame.

The Panthers scratched out 15 hits and put runs on the scoreboard in four different innings.

In the nightcap, Chapman did not play the role of gracious hosts, pushing across
four runs in each of the first three innings to jump out to a huge lead.

While the Chapman bats were hot from the start, Carleton found it difficult to get a rally started. The Knights were held hitless until Duron singled with two out in the fourth stanza and finished the five-inning contest with only two safeties.

Carleton (1-7) concludes action at the Sun West Tournament on Thursday with games versus Middlebury College and Whitworth College.
