Knights Bats Go Cold in the Desert

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Carleton College softball team struggled to get the bats going in dropping a pair of games on Monday, falling 9-1 to North Central College and 11-0 to Hastings College. This has not been a typical Spring Break trip for the Knights, as temperatures in the Sonoran Desert were more than 20 degrees cooler than the mid-70s temperatures back home in Minnesota.

Jenny Ramey (So./Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy) got Carleton the early lead against North Central. She reached on a error to begin the game, then came around on a passed ball and a pair of groundouts.

The Cardinals plated a trio of unearned runs in the third then added three-run frames in the fifth and sixth.

The day’s second game started with Ramey singling, then stealing second and third. She was stranded, however, and Carleton managed just two more hits—both singles by Katrina Harper (So./Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights). The Broncos meanwhile collected 12 hits and scored in every inning

The Knights will look to get back on track as they play games against Calvin College and Carthage College on Tuesday, March 20.
