NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at cross-town rival St. Olaf College, falling by scores of 7-2 and 10-2. Chelsea Yost (Jr./Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) collected three hits on the day, including a pair of doubles, to pace the Knights.
Carleton (8-29, 5-15 MIAC) scored first in the opener, when Yost led off the second inning with a single and later came home on a grounder off the bat of Claire Willeck (Fy./Eden Prarie, Minn./Eden Prarie).
St. Olaf (18-22, 10-12 MIAC) bounced back with five runs—four of them unearned—in the bottom of the inning. The Oles added two more in the fifth as they strung together three consecutive hits to start the frame.
Willeck doubled and scored in the seventh, but it was too little, too late for the Knights.
Game two saw the hosts go deep three times, accounting for six of the runs. Maggie Scholer hit a solo shot in the first, Jess Wilson contributed a two-run homer in the second, and Chris Miller added a three-run version during the Oles’ five-run fifth inning that ended the contest.
Yost’s second double of the contest chased home Jenny Ramey (So./Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy) in the third inning for Carleton’s first run. Kelsey Parsons (Jr./Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins) tallied the other run in the fourth.
Carleton will close the season on Monday, April 30 by hosting Bethel University at 3:30 p.m. Knights Online will carry live audio of both games.
