Knights Open MIAC Play with Split at Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – After the Knights dropped their MIAC opener at Augsburg College, 7-5, the Carleton College softball team bounced back to take the nightcap, 7-2. Keelin Davis (Fy./Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville) pitched well and added a game-clinching two-run home run to earn the Knights a split.

Claire Willeck (So./ Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) was 2-for-2 with two walks and three RBI in the opener. Jenny Ramey (Jr./Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy) added two hits, two stolen bases, and two RBI. The Knights led 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Auggies pushed across four runs to pull out the victory.

In game two, Carleton took advantage of a pair of Augsburg miscues to plate two unearned tallies in the top of the first. The Knights tacked on another run on Nicole Magats’ (Fy./La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) RBI single in the top of the fourth.

Davis went the distance for her second collegiate victory, scatting only four hits with the only damage coming on a two-run home run by Lindsay Helbach in the bottom of the fourth.

The score stayed 3-2 until the seventh when Kelsey Parsons (Sr./Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins) delivered sacrifice fly. Following another run thanks to an Auggie error, Davis smacked her first home run, making the final score 7-5.

Mother Nature might continue to impact next week’s schedule for the Knights. Tuesday’s home opener versus Concordia College will likely be pushed back to Wednesday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. Carleton already its Wednesday’s non-conference contests against Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran postponed to a date yet to be determined.
