Gusties Sweep Knights

ST. PETER, Minn. — Playing for just the second time in two weeks due to wet weather, the Carleton College softball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader against Gustavus Adolphus College, falling 8-1 and 7-5.

Due to field conditions at Carleton, the games were re-located to the Gustavus campus and held on the football field with the Gusties batting first. Despite playing as the visitors, the conference runners-up from a year ago felt right at home on the gridiron and out-hit the Knights 14 to 6 in game one, including six extra-base hits.

Carleton had scoring chances in the first two innings but 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position for the contest. The lone Knight run came in the fifth with Jenny Ramey (Jr./Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy) racing home on a single by Katrina Harper (Jr./Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights).

Game two started better for the Knights, as they erased a 2-0 deficit with a four-run bottom of the first and later led 5-3 after the second stanza. However, the offensive woes returned for Carleton. Over the final five frames, the Knights went 0-for-10 with runners on base.

Gustavus knotted the score at 5-5 in the fifth when Kailey Morgan connected for her second home run of the day. The Gusties scratched out two more tallies in the inning and held on to compete the sweep.

Ramey and Keelin Davis (Fy./Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville) paced the Knights as they both had three hits on the day.

Carleton will be back in action on Saturday, April 27 when the Knights hold Senior Day. Cross-town rival St. Olaf visits for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
