NORTHFIELD, Minn. – In a battle of crosstown foes, the Knights were swept 4-1 and 7-1 by St. Olaf College, concluding Carleton’s season. Senior Mari Jo Long (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) concluded her career with a pair of complete-game efforts.
In game one, the Oles scored all four runs in the fourth inning. Karen Robinson (Fy./Bainbridge Island, Wash.) was 2-for-3 and scored Carleton’s run—an unearned tally—in the sixth.
St. Olaf hurler Katie Truax yielded three hits in a complete-game showing of her own. She also chipped in three hits. The big inning doomed Carleton again in game two as the Oles pushed five runs across in the bottom of the first.
The Knights threatened in each inning, getting at least one baserunner aboard during every frame. Carleton, though, managed only one run on Hannah Maras’ (Sr./Madelia, Minn.) fifth-inning double. The Knights stranded 12 runners, including nine in scoring position.
Lisa Friedman (Sr./Pasadena, Calif./Flintridge Preparatory) had three hits to lead Carleton in game two, while Robinson collected two more hits and once again scored the lone run.
Although she went hitless on the day, junior Michael Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Blake) finished the year as the Knights’ leader in average (.309), home runs (4) and RBI (14).
