Joanne Kutzler moves into her ninth season as Carleton's head synchronized swimming coach as one of the most knowledgeable and accomplished people in the sport.

Kutzler is a national award-winning coach, as she was named the United States Synchronized Swimming age group developmental coach of the year. She is a former three-time Senior National medalist with the Santa Clara Aquamaids and is a nationally rated judge and the U.S. Synchronized Swimming Association’s officials chairperson. She brings nearly 20 years of synchronized swimming experience to Carleton. In September 2006, Kutzler was elected at the annual USAS (United States Aquatic Sports) Convention to the USA Synchronized Swimming National Governing Board of Directors. She will serve a two-year term as the body's treasurer.

She also serves as the Minnesota West Metro Synchronettes’ head coach and was previously the head coach at the University of Minnesota.

Kutzler holds a B.A. in political science and sociology from the University of Minnesota, a master’s degree in public administration from USC-Los Angeles, a J.D. from Southwestern University Law School, and a doctor of public administration (a.b.d.) from USC-Sacramento.
