Knights Earn AVCA Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recently announced that the Carleton College volleyball team earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 season. This is the 11th time in the last 12 years that the Knights have earned this accolade.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-1993 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.1 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.  

Carleton was one of five MIAC programs to receive this award. The other conference schools receiving the award were Bethel University, College of Saint Benedict, Macalester College, Saint Catherine University. Since 2002, Carleton has picked up the honor 11 times, two more than any other Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) program.

The Knights open the 2013 season against College of St. Scholastica at the St. Olaf/Carleton Tournament on August 30.
