Heidi Luehmann Jaynes, the MIAC Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2004 and the American Volleyball Coaches Assocation (AVCA) central region coach of the year in 2004, enters her tenth season at Carleton after leading the Knights to the 2005 and 2007 NCAA Championships and their first appearance in the national top 10 AVCA poll.

Jaynes, who recorded her 100th career victory with a 3-2 victory over 16th-ranked Central College (Iowa) on Oct. 8, 2005, has led the Knights to five consecutive winning seasons, an unprecedented streak in Carleton volleyball history. The Knights are 95-37 during the five-year stretch and have recorded top-three conference finishes in each of the last three seasons. She led the Knights to the 2004 MIAC regular-season title and MIAC Playoff title game appearances in 2003 and 2004. The Knights were nationally ranked in 2004, rising as high as 16th in the AVCA Division III top 25, and were ranked the entire 2005 season, getting as high as ninth heading into the NCAA Championships.

When Jaynes arrived at Carleton she inherited a program that had won but 10 matches the three seasons prior to her arrival, including a grand total of one MIAC contest. She is the second-winningest coach in Carleton history and has the best career winning percentage of any Knight volleyball coach with at least four seasons at Carleton.

The 2005 season witnessed the Knights recording 22 victories for the second straight season and finishing 10-1 in conference play. The Knights were nationally ranked the entire season for the first time, ascending into the top ten for the first time, and won the school's first NCAA Tournament match in volleyball. Middle hitter Alivia Bryan '05 and libero Jamie Lykken '05 were honored as All-America honorable mention selections.

The 2004 season was one of the best in Carleton volleyball history, as Jaynes led the Knights to a 22-3 mark, 10-1 in MIAC play. Carleton’s .880 winning percentage set a new school record, as did its .909 conference winning percentage, as the Knights captured the MIAC's regular-season title. Carleton also had its first All-Americans in program history, middle blocker Beth Freeman '05 (third team) and outside hitter Katie Freeman '05 (honorable mention). The Knights won a school-record 13 consecutive matches and 27 consecutive individual games during the season and posted a 4-2 mark against nationally-ranked teams.

In 2003, Carleton posted its best winning percentage in more than two decades and reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 1988. The Knights reached the MIAC Playoff title game for the second time in school history, finished the conference regular season tied for third (its best finish since 1985) and beat conference powers St. Olaf and St. Thomas for the first time since 1987.

She previously was the assistant women's volleyball coach for three years at the University of Oklahoma, where her Division I coaching experience followed her own highly successful playing career for the Sooners. A four-year starting middle blocker, she was a second-team All-Big Eight selection and team captain in 1995, and was a four-time Academic All-Big Eight honoree. Jaynes has coached at the University of Minnesota/Nike Camps and the MVI Elite camps, was the head coach of both the Oklahoma Wind Junior Program in Oklahoma City and the Heidi Luehmann Volleyball Summer Camps in Minnesota and Alaska, and served as a volunteer assistant in athletic marketing and promotions at the University of Oklahoma.

A graduate of Mabel-Canton High School (Minn.), Jaynes was a Minnesota All-State high school player in both volleyball and basketball. She holds an M.B.A. and a B.A. in finance and international business from Oklahoma.

Jaynes, also an associate professor of physical education, athletics and recreaton, lives in Dundas with her husband, Andrew, an assistant women's basketball coach at Carleton, and their daughters Sydney and Teagan.
