Northfield, Minn. -- Danielle Hargreaves tallied 10 kills, two aces and eight digs and Sarah Kunelius added nine kills, two aces and four blocks as Carleton won for the fifth time in six tries in MIAC play to move one step closer to clinching its fourth consecutive MIAC Playoff spot.
The Knights (12-10, 6-4 MIAC) can clinch at least a tie for fourth place with a win over rival St. Olaf College on Wednesday. A win would also give Carleton a home game in the conference post-season tournament's first round, as they'd be assured of the third seed following St. Benedict's losses on Friday to St. Olaf and Saturday to Gustavus. If the Knights were to lose to the Oles, though, they could still get into the MIAC Playoffs if Concordia beat St. Benedict in Moorhead, but the Knights would be the sixth seed in that scenario.
Marie Hoffman paced the Wildcats (8-17, 2-8 MIAC) with eight kills and three blocks and Emily Van Hon added nine kills. Whitney Sparby paced the visitors with 21 assists and Eriak Kriechbaum added 11 digs.
Heather La Chapelle (Jr./Eagan, Minn.) tallied 31 set assists, five digs, four kills and an ace. She passed the 2,500-assists mark in the process and is only the third Carleton setter to surpass the milestone. She ranks third all-time in assists at Carleton but first in career assists average at 9.53 per game. At that pace, she would catch Katie Haldy '04 sometime next year, as Haldy's 3,010 assists is the Carleton career standard.
Laura Barsness (Fy./Lakeville, Minn./North) led all players with 14 digs. Samantha Hendricks (Jr./Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) added seven kills and Libby Ritz (Jr./Madison, Wis./West) tallied six kills for Carleton.
Carleton wraps up its regular-season slate at St. Olaf on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. The Oles were eliminated from MIAC Playoff contention with Carleton's victory on Saturday. The match will be live on Knights Online.
